  • 7/30/02–8/18/02 Marla plays Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, starring opposite Roger Rees. The show (produced by Theatre under the Stars) runs for one week in Atlanta, Georgia, and for two weeks in Dallas, Texas. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

  • 6/3/02 Marla performs at a York Theatre Benefit honoring Sir Cameron Mackintosh. Other performers include Liz Callaway, Christine Ebersole, Jim Dale, Erin Dilly, Kevin Gray, Debbie Gravitte, Judy Kuhn, Norm Lewis, Howard McGillin, Faith Prince, and Brad Oscar. Sir Cameron is presented with the 2002 Oscar Hammerstein Award. The event takes place at Florence Gould Hall at the French Institute/Alliance Francaise. (Thanks for the info, Erika!)
  • 1/02 According to a post by Marla's mother on the Jane Eyre forum, Marla is currently in Hollywood enjoying the zaniness of the television "pilot season."
  • 11/17/01 Voices across the Moors: The Jane Eyre Alumni Website is launched. Check it out!
  • 10/29/01 At 8:30 p.m., Marla joins Judy Kuhn, Norm Lewis, Emily Skinner, Daisy Eagan, Kirk McDonald, Laura Benanti, Raul Esparza, Tara Bahna-James, and Shayne Steele at Joe's Pub in New York for the first installment of The New Songwriter Festival. The evening highlights the work of Florante Galvez, Lance Horne, Chris Miller, and Nathan Tysen. Tickets cost $12 and can be purchased through Telecharge at (212) 239-6200.

  • 10/15/01 Marla performs "Painting Her Portrait" at Gimme a Break, a cabaret benefiting the new non-profit theater company Transport Group. Other performers include Marc Kudisch, Jessica Molaskey, Julia Murney, Brad Oscar, Evan Pappas, Michele Pawk, Jennifer Piech, Emily Skinner, Mary Testa, and Barbara Walsh.

  • 5/24/01 Marla's Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical (for which she tied with Christine Ebersole of 42nd Street) is presented in a ceremony at the Eugenia Room of Sardi’s Theatrical Restaurant.

  • 5/23/01 The producers announce that, due to an 8% increase in ticket sales, Jane Eyre will continue to run on Broadway at least until June 10.
  • 5/20/01 Marla wins the Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Musical. The awards ceremony, hosted by Lily Tomlin, is held in the F. H. LaGuardia High School Concert Hall at Lincoln Center. The ceremony is broadcast throughout the week in New York on NY-1 and NY-13/WNET.

  • 5/16/01 At 8:30 a.m., the producers of Jane Eyre announce that the show—despite five Tony nominations—will close Sunday, May 20. At 5:15 p.m., the producers announce that, thanks to a generous donation from Alanis Morisette (a friend of Jane Eyre composer Paul Gordon), the show will stay open another week, until May 27.
  • 5/01 Marla wins Broadway.com's Audience Award for Best Leading Actress in a Broadway Musical.
  • 5/7/01 Marla is nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
  • 5/1/01 Marla is nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Musical. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on May 20.
  • 4/30/01 Marla ties with Christine Ebersole (42nd Street) for the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical. The awards ceremony will be held May 24 at the Eugenia Room of Sardi’s Theatrical Restaurant.
  • 4/22/01 In addition to the regular 3 p.m. Sunday matinee, there is a special 8 p.m. performance of Jane Eyre to raise money for The Actors' Fund.
